2010 MLK CELEBRATION: LET FREEDOM RING

President Barack Obama lead the nation in remembering the legacy of MLK by attending the annual Let Freedom Ring Celebration, sponsored by The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Georgetown University.

This year's celebration featured Grammy-award-winning recording artist INDIA.ARIE along with the Let Freedom Ring Celebration Choir. NEWjr returned for a seventh year as Music Director, premiering two new compositions commissioned by Georgetown University: a new setting of a rare spiritual, I'm Going to Do All I Can, adapted from an early score published by John Work in 1915, and a pop ballad, I am the Dream, with lyrics appropriately adapted from the speeches of Martin King and President Obama.

The program also included a presentation of the 2010 Legacy of a Dream Award to Dekembe Mtumbo for his humanitarianism and philanthropy.
